Marine algae are known as seaweed and vary in biological complexity, ranging from tiny single-celled to multi-celled complex organisms.  Kelp are simply large seaweeds belonging to the brown algae. The data set includes species distribution information and illustrations/images for 10 genera of abundant African seaweeds. 

 

  • Name:  Distribution of 10 genera of algae, including kelp, in coastal Africa. The genera were chosen on the basis of economic importance and/or abundance at country level.
